Ashtang Ayurveda
Ashtanga Ayurveda refers to the eight branches of Ayurveda. Great Indian seers divided Ayurveda into eight super-specialty branches:
- Kaya Chikitsa (Internal Medicine) — Kaya stands for Agni, the digestive fire within the human body. ‘Kayachikitsa’ deals with the treatment of minor ailments directly or indirectly by treating Agni.
- Bala Chikitsa (Treatment of Children/Pediatrics) — This branch of Ayurveda deals with diagnosis and treatment of diseases associated with Preconception (Obstetrics), Childbearing (Pregnancy), Childbirth (Delivery) and diseases related to children (Pediatrics).
- Graha Chikitsa (Astrology) — Bhut Vidya deals with Psychology and Psychiatry treatment. It deals with the management of clinical conditions arising out of astrological conflicts and similar unknown elements.
- Urdhwa Chikitsa (ENT) — Management and treatment of the ears, nose, throat and eyes. It involves various surgical and non—surgical modalities for management of these conditions.
- Shalya Chikitsa (Surgery) — Surgical management of various disease and health conditions, Shalya tantra is best suited, when the problem is beyond j ust medicinal repair.
- Danshtra/Visha Chikitsa (Toxicology) — This branch deals with various natural poisons/toxins originating from minerals, plant and animal kingdoms as well as artificial poisons prepared from poisonous drugs.
- Iara Chikitsa/Rasayana Chikitsa (Science of rejuvenation) — Involves upliftment of basic physical constitution and regeneration of body tissues of a greater caliber and enabling longevity.
- Vrusha Chikitsa / Vajikarana — This branch discusses the therapeutic use of various aphrodisiacs for enhancing the Vigor and sexual capability of males and curing other male sexual disorders.
